30 September 2025 | NEW YORK – The National Coffee Association today continued National Coffee Day 2025 celebrations by hosting a briefing for Congressional representatives and staff about coffee’s contributions to the U.S. economy, communities, and Americans’ lives.
The celebration was hosted in conjunction with the bipartisan Congressional Coffee Caucus and opened with remarks from Caucus co-chairs Congresswoman Jill Tokuda (D-HI) and Congressman William Timmons (R-SC).
NCA leadership, representatives of member companies, and invited experts shared the latest information about the caucus’ three focus areas – coffee’s economic impact, health benefits, and resilience in the global coffee supply chain that American businesses and coffee drinkers rely on every day.
Coffee provides more than 2.2 million jobs and contributes more than $340 billion to the U.S. economy annually, accounting for 8% of the total value of the food service sector. While coffee cannot be grown in most of the United States, once imported every $1 of coffee generates $43 in U.S. economic activity all along the supply chain from transportation, warehousing, roasting, processing, packaging, sale, and distribution.
NCA President and CEO Bill Murray commented:
“Coffee brings hundreds of millions of Americans joy every day, and it also makes rich contributions to our communities, our economy and our health. NCA is honored to have the opportunity to share the latest data on these benefits with Congressional leaders and to foster communication and collaboration that keep America’s favorite beverage (other than bottled water!) brewing.”
Congresswoman Tokuda (D-HI) added:
“Coffee is a specialty crop, and the life blood for coffee growers in Hawaii and one that keeps all of America running. We’re delighted to welcome collaboration to keep coffee driving so many benefits in Hawaii and across the United States.”
Congressman Timmons (R-SC) commented:
“Coffee is a vital part of the American story, not only as a daily comfort for millions of people but as an industry that supports over two million jobs and contributes hundreds of billions of dollars to our economy. As co-chair of the Congressional Coffee Caucus, I am committed to ensuring that this industry remains strong, resilient, and able to continue delivering benefits to workers, businesses, and communities across the United States.”
In addition to demonstrating coffee’s economic benefits for the United States and the agricultural practices that sustain the coffee supply we need, the event showcased coffee’s association with healthy diets, overall increased longevity, and reduced risk of multiple cancers and chronic diseases. The Trump administration formally recognized in April that plain coffee qualifies to be labeled as “healthy.”
