The NCA Guide to Workplace Safety
Resources for coffee companies.
Disclaimer: We invite you to
review these resources to ensure that your workplace is as safe as
possible – and compliant with all applicable laws and regulations.
NCA’s
Guide to Workplace Safety and the resources provided within The Guide
are not meant to be a substitute for on-site assessment, evaluation,
hazard control, and training, which is the responsibility of coffee
organizations, which should consult with qualified industrial hygiene
professionals to implement workplace safety programs.
Coffee workplaces aren’t known to be particularly hazardous. In fact, most of the risks in coffee facilities, such as from hot equipment, are easily visible and can be readily addressed. Other hazards are less obvious, such as invisible airborne emissions associated with roasting coffee.
NCA has compiled resources to help coffee companies ensure that their workplaces are safe. Some of these materials have been curated from third party materials. In other cases, such as with respect to invisible emissions such as CO2, CO and diacetyl, these resources are based upon a variety of sources, including work commissioned by the NCA.
The NCA Workplace Safety Resource Guide covers:
- Safety Data Sheets for Green and Roasted Coffee
- Working in Hazardous Spaces
- Control of Hazardous Energy
- Chemical Safety & Hazard Communication
- Electrical Safety
- Emergency Preparedness
- Ergonomics
- Working at Heights and Fall Protection
- Fire Prevention
- Machine Guarding
- Personal Protective Equipment
- Trip, Slip & Fall Protection
- Ventilation & Airborne Substances (Including Diacetyl)
- Hearing Protection
- Heavy Lifting
