Coffee Gives Back at the NCA Convention

This year, there are multiple ways to give back.

Day of Service

Each year Convention volunteers gather to have fun, create memories, and give back to the host community. This year, NCA is working with Starting Right, Now – a project dedicated to ending youth homelessness in Tampa by providing one-on-one mentoring, and a stable home, assisting with employment opportunities, teaching financial literacy/life skills, and promoting educational achievement.

Day of Service participants will roll up their sleeves and work to better the living conditions of students in the program via home improvement projects that will create an environment conducive to helping these students achieve their goals.

Fee: $25

Step n' Serve Challenge

For the second year in a row, we’re challenging coffee professionals to get moving for a good cause during (and in the days leading up to) the 2023 NCA Convention!

Using an app called MoveSpring, attendees can take part in the NCA Step n’ Serve Challenge, which will track participants’ step count as they progress toward a shared goal. Once the group achieves the goal, a portion of the Sponsor’s and participants’ proceeds will be donated to the 2023 NCA Origin Charity of the Year Award Winner. Now in its sixth year, the NCA Origin Charity of the Year Award recognizes charitable organizations that have made a positive impact on coffee-growing communities while demonstrating strategic, innovative, and implementation excellence.

The Step n’ Serve Challenge participants will be entered into a raffle and the participant with the highest step count at the end of the Challenge will receive a prize.

Fee: $25

NCA’s Inaugural Sustainability Project

New this year! This project provides eco-friendly support to communities in need.

With sponsor and donor support, this “project with purpose” provides much-needed, “eco-friendly” household goods and supplies to local Floridians who suffered loss from the recent hurricanes and who are working to build their resilience for the future. The United Way Suncoast has been identified as the charity that will receive and distribute sustainable products to households and community centers in need.

The products will be delivered to the hotel and will be on display on Friday and Saturday during the Convention. Need a break from the Convention action? Stop by the Sustainability Project station (located in a prominent area of the convention) to assemble a kit or two. Participants in this effort (who donate $25 toward the cause) are encouraged to stop by the assembly station and sign the “I Support Sustainability” board.

More Ways to Give Back

Give back directly by donating to our 2022 Origin Charity of the Year, The Seeds for Progress Foundation, as well as the charities in our Charity Showcase.

Know a coffee nonprofit in need of recognition? Please encourage them to apply for our 2023 Origin Charity of the Year Award, to be given out at the 2023 NCA Annual Convention in Tampa, Florida.
