NCA applauds exemption of coffee from Section 301 tariffs on Brazil

July 16, 2026 | NEW YORK – The National Coffee Association (NCA) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Trade Representative’s (USTR) announcement that coffee, including unflavored instant coffee, will be exempted from tariffs imposed as a result of USTR’s Section 301 investigation into various policies and practices of Brazil.

NCA President and CEO William “Bill” Murray thanked the administration for maintaining previous coffee exemptions and adding unflavored instant in recognition of coffee’s unique benefit to U.S. coffee drinkers, coffee companies, and the U.S. economy.

He commented:

“Two-thirds of American adults drink coffee each day - more than any other beverage, including water - and today they can do so with confidence that new tariffs will not affect the largest source of their favorite beverage.

The United States can’t grow coffee to meet our needs, so the administration’s strategic exemptions make critical contributions to easing cost-of-living pressures and enabling coffee’s continued enormous contributions to U.S. jobs, manufacturing, and the economy.”
