NCA: Banning European Method decaf would defy science and harm Americans’ health

March 8, 2024 - Banning the most common decaffeinated coffee - known as European Method decaf - would unjustifiably deny decaffeinated coffee drinkers access to a safe product associated with decreased risk of multiple cancers and other health benefits, the National Coffee Association (NCA) warned today (Friday).

March 7, 2024 - The National Coffee Association (NCA) elected Jonathan White as its new Chair, taking over from outgoing Chair Robert Menos. Nathalie Gabbay was elected to replace Jonathan White as Vice Chair.

NCA appoints new Director of Integrated Communications

March 4, 2024 - The National Coffee Association (NCA) has appointed Helena Dean to the role of Director of Integrated Communications.

In her new senior leadership role at NCA, Dean will be responsible for guiding the organization’s communications strategy, ensuring alignment with the NCA’s mission and strategic goals. This includes developing and managing comprehensive marketing and communication strategies, ensuring a consistent and credible NCA voice across its platforms.

Food 4 Farmers Named 2024 NCA Origin Charity of the Year

NCA Promotes Owen Clayton to Manager, Marketing and Communications

Coffee Brews Big Benefits for U.S. Economy: Landmark Report

October 23, 2023  – U.S. consumers spent nearly $110 billion on coffee and related goods in 2022 (equivalent to about $301 million every day), and coffee accounted for more than 8% of the value of the entire food service industry, according to a landmark new study of coffee’s economic impact in the United States.

September 19, 2023 -  More Americans drink coffee each day (63%) than any other beverage, including water, according to the latest “Atlas of American Coffee” published today (Tuesday).

Commissioned by the National Coffee Association (NCA) since 1950 and now updated twice yearly, the National Coffee Data Trends (NCDT) report is the longest-running study of American consumers’ coffee drinking patterns.

NCA Promotes Matthew Cariani to Director of Education, Research, and Innovation

June 1, 2023 - The National Coffee Association (NCA) announced today that Matthew Cariani has been promoted to Director of Education, Research, and Innovation.

In his new role, Mr. Cariani will continue to grow NCA’s educational programming and market research, including our webinars program, Convention programming, and National Coffee Data Trends Market Research Series. U.S. Coffee Welcomes New Bill to Protect Coffee Supplies

February 13, 2023 - The $225 billion U.S. coffee sector and more than 1.6 million U.S. jobs rely on coffee supplies from around the world. Coffee growers in Hawaii and Puerto Rico that supply the lucrative specialty coffee market in the United States, as well as growers in low-income countries, are particularly vulnerable to pests and disease. The Coffee Plant Health Initiative Amendments Act (CPHIAA, H.R. 966) will accelerate agricultural research to help overcome these challenges while maintaining flavor and quality.

NCA Names Kathryn Lawson New Chair of Science Leadership Council

October 4, 2022 - The National Coffee Association announced that Kathryn Lawson, MS, RDN has been named the new Chair of the NCA’s Science Leadership Council (SLC), the preeminent authority on coffee science in the U.S. In her new role as SLC Chair, Ms. Lawson will guide the work of the Council on a range of scientific issues affecting the coffee industry from regulation and policy to research monitoring, health and nutrition, food safety, and more.

September 29, 2022 More young adults in the United States are drinking coffee than ever before, according to the latest “Atlas of American Coffee” released today (Thursday).

 

NCA Names Kellem Emanuele Vice President of Operations

September 6, 2022 - The National Coffee Association, USA (NCA) announced today that Kellem Emanuele has been named Vice President of Operations. In this newly created role, Emanuele will oversee day-to-day operations of the organization as it implements its 2023-2025 Strategic Plan to further enhance coffee’s reputation and increase coffee consumption through education, advocacy, connection, and community.

March 15, 2022 - Coffee consumption has soared to a two-decade high as Americans brew up new post-COVID routines, according to exclusive consumer polling released this morning (Tuesday) by the National Coffee Association (NCA).

Latest “Atlas of American Coffee”: Out-of-home coffee drinking rebounds to pre-COVID levels

September 28, 2021 - Americans have increased coffee consumption at work by 55% and at cafés and restaurants by 20% since January 2021, driving an overall 16% increase in out-of-home coffee consumption as COVID-19 restrictions have eased around the country.

December 29, 2020 -  The Dietary Guidelines for Americans released today (Tuesday) reaffirm that coffee can be part of healthy diets, which is great news for the two-thirds of Americans who drink coffee each day, more than any other beverage.

Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee Report Ignores Evidence of Coffee’s Health Benefits

August 11, 2020 - The National Coffee Association today submitted comments to the U.S. Departments of Agriculture (USDA) and Health and Human Services (HHS) warning that the Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) report ignores the preponderance of evidence about coffee’s unique health benefits.

California Court Ends Decade-Old Wrongful Lawsuit Against America's Favorite Beverage 

August 26, 2020 -- Judge Elihu Berle of the Superior Court of California affirmed the state of California’s May 2019 evidence-based finding that acrylamide found in coffee following the roasting and brewing process does not cause cancer.

U.S. Coffee Companies Act to Combat Child Labor in Coffee-Growing Countries

March 2, 2020

Responding to allegations about coffee farms in Guatemala, William "Bill" Murray, President and CEO of the National Coffee Association, commented:  “NCA and our member companies agree that child labor has no place in the coffee supply chain. We applaud the immediate action taken by the companies involved to support further investigation of these allegations.


NCA announces commitment to working to help coffee farmers

September 25, 2019

NCA today welcomed the London Declaration of the International Coffee Council’s CEO and Global Leaders Forum (CGLF). The Declaration acknowledges that a key to improving the livelihoods of coffee farmers is increasing consumption – a critically important strategy since global coffee supply is at record highs, resulting in historically low prices for coffee. The Declaration calls for globally-coordinated action including to promote sustainable production, helping farmers become more resilient to climate and other challenges, and stimulating demand.
