This year, NCA is prefacing its Convention programming with a new pre-conference Symposium – Coffee at the Crossroads of Law and Science. In a year when the industry is being buffeted by regulatory and legal threats that hinge on technical, scientific factors, NCA is introducing a half-day educational Symposium dedicated to exploring the legal and scientific bases of these threats.
Prominent industry scientists and attorneys will share their specialized expertise and attack the new challenges from all sides. Distinct to this Symposium, the experts will also compare, contrast and integrate their knowledge to yield cross-disciplinary insight and perspective. Presenters will deliver indispensable information for industry members struggling to protect their businesses against the new breed of science-based regulatory and legal challenges.
At the Coffee at the Crossroads of Law and Science, you’ll learn:
Why California’s Proposition 65 is impacting a growing number of companies nationwide, and how your company may be snagged under its jurisdiction
How companies like yours are being drawn in to the Proposition 65 acrylamide lawsuits against roasters and retailers – even when not being sued directly
What future legal and regulatory issues you may face due to other heat-formed toxicants as science “Chases Zero” with advancing techniques to detect tiny traces of substances in foods and beverages
How you can protect your company in the face of current and future Proposition 65 lawsuits
Ways to comply with highly complex and technical regulatory requirements under the Food Safety Modernization Act
How pending regulations to implement FSMA provisions on hazard assessment, preventive controls, and produce safety measures can fundamentally disrupt your company HACCP and other food safety measures, and open them up to government and even public scrutiny.
Where you should draw the line for making product health claims without violating federal regulations.
