Colleen Anunu
Director of Coffee, Gimme! Coffee
 
Colleen Anunu has been with Gimme! Coffee in Ithaca, NY since 2004. As Gimme’s Roasting Department Manager, she has had experience with small batch roasting and profile development on both Sivetz fluid bed and Probat drum style roasters. After receiving her Q Grader license and SCAA Cupping Judge certification in 2009, Colleen became Gimme’s first Director of Coffee. She oversees green coffee selection, production roasting, roasting R&D, and coffee-related communication. Colleen’s efforts with Gimme have been featured in Roast Magazine (May/June, 2008) and Coffee Talk (October, 2008).
 

David Browning
Vice President, Coffee Initiative, Technoserve


David has been with TechnoServe, a non-profit organization focused on solving poverty in developing countries, since 2003. David has also served as TechnoServe’s Regional Director for Latin America and Vice President for Business Development. Prior to joining TechnoServe, David worked for McKinsey and Company, a management consulting firm. Before McKinsey, David held a range of managerial positions in the manufacturing, petroleum, and retail industries. David holds an MBA from Yale University, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, and a Master’s degree in Advanced Finance from the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia
 

Chris Burger
Coffee Product Manager, Fres-co System USA, Inc.

Chris has worked in the coffee industry for over 19 years focused on innovation in coffee packaging. Working for Fres-co System USA Inc, he has traveled extensively throughout North and Central America and Europe exploring the latest coffee packaging technologies to best preserve, protect and market coffee.

 

Scott Clemons
Managing Director, Brown Brothers Harriman & Co.


Scott Clemons joined BBH&Co. in 1990, and has held a variety of investment roles at the firm over the past 19 years. His career began in international equities, where he was an analyst and portfolio manager of European and Asian equities, working out of the firm’s New York and London offices. In 2001 he transitioned into domestic equity management and research, and since then has become one of BBH’s primary writers and speakers on topics related to the financial markets and wealth management. While he continues to write and speak, Scott now manages one of the firm’s six Private Wealth Management offices, based in New York.
Scott is a Chartered Financial Analyst, and a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts and the CFA Institute. Outside of his professional interests, Scott serves on advisory boards at the Morgan Library and Museum in New York, The Grolier Club, the Princeton University Library, and the Getty Research Institute in Los Angeles. Scott also serves on the board of directors of the Research Corporation for Science Advancement, the oldest foundation in the United States dedicated to basic scientific research. Born and raised in Florida, he is a magna cum laude graduate (Classics) of Princeton University, and lives with his wife and two children in Manhattan.
 

Jeff Cohn

Since its opening in 2000, Jeff has evolved Cohn Marketing from a one-man consultancy into a full-service integrated agency with expertise in brand development, marketing, public relations, creative and digital/interactive marketing, helping to grow companies such as Mont Blanc Gourmet into a major supplier of syrup and drink mix solutions in the coffee industry and securing millions of dollars worth of local, regional and national media coverage for Green Beans Coffee. He also has expanded the client base internationally and guided the agency to achieve countless awards, including Addys, Alfies, Teddys, AMA Best of Show, BMA Gold Key Awards, PRSA Gold Pick Awards, ReBrand 100 Awards and ICSC MAXI Awards, just to name a few. As the company’s chief brand strategist, Jeff has a deep passion for helping clients realize their goals and objectives for their brand. He is continually inspired to lead the Cohn Marketing team to develop powerful brand strategies. As a business owner and CEO, Jeff is committed to providing an open and creative work environment that encourages his team to reach their goals both professionally and personally. Jim Coughlin, Ph.D.

Dr. Coughlin has over 35 years experience in food/nutrition science and regulatory affairs; food, chemical and environmental toxicology and safety; chemical risk assessment; diet and cancer evaluations; risk-benefit evaluation of foods and food ingredients; GRAS food additive safety evaluations; safety and benefits of functional foods; California Proposition 65; health effects of dietary nitrite and nitrate; safety of imported food ingredients and biotechnology-derived foods; food and environmental chemical analyses; naturally occurring food toxicants; antioxidants in foods and supplements; and scientific risk communication. He provides strategic scientific, toxicologic, nutritional, communications and regulatory counsel to many food, functional food, dietary supplement, chemical, and consumer products companies and their trade associations, law firms and public relations firms.  He holds a Master's in Food Science & Technology and a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Chemistry from UC Davis.

 

Jorge Cuevas
Director of Trade Operations, Sustainable Harvest

Jorge Cuevas directs Sustainable Harvest's trade operations team from our office in Oaxaca, Mexico. Jorge oversees new business development from both the roaster and grower sides. He also coordinates supplier relationships from all four Sustainable Harvest at Origin regional offices to find the most suitable markets and roaster partners for coffee growers. Jorge has extensive experience in building organizations within the specialty coffee industry. Prior to his work with Sustainable Harvest, Jorge sparked the creation of La Trinidad Pluma cooperative and founded a non-profit agency, FOMCAFE, to provide growers with technical assistance. Jorge also co-founded PRECOX, an organic dry coffee mill in Oaxaca which has recently been acquired by a consortium of farmer cooperatives called UNOPCAFE. In October 2002, Cuevas joined Sustainable Harvest as Supply Director. Jorge has served on the Sustainability Committee of the Specialty Coffee Association of America and is an active participant on the Fair Trade Forums and Amigos del Café program. Jorge has a degree in International Studies from the School for International Training.


Candace L. Doepker, Ph.D.
Manager, Product Safety & Scientific Affairs, J.M. Smucker Company


Prior to joining J.M. Smucker, Candace spent 13 years as a Senior Toxicologist in the area of consumer product safety for Procter & Gamble where she developed hazard evaluation and risk assessment skills.   For the past 3 years Candace has been working in the area of food toxicology and has developed expertise in caffeine safety and diacetyl safety, as well as safety related issues management for coffee.  She has also been an active member of the Scientific Advisory Group at the NCA and the International Life Science Institute’s Caffeine Working Group for the past 2 years.  Additionally, she has served as the Co-Chair of the Caffeine Committee with the International Food Information Council (IFIC) and was recently appointed to the Board of Directors of IFIC.  In all of these affiliations she is recognized for her science-based understanding of health and wellness in regards to coffee and a strong working knowledge of the safety, regulatory and worker related issues facing the industry.
 

Nichole DuPont
Coordinator, Social Media, Bunn-O-Matic

As coordinator of BUNN’s social marketing initiatives, Nichole regularly tweets, maintains the company’s Facebook page, and manages the two corporate blogs. She keeps a pulse on specialty coffee topics online, and she tries to keep pace with the almost hourly changes in social marketing. Nichole served as a coordinator for the SCAA panel Penning the Perfect Cup in 2009 and volunteers her time to the IWCA (International Women’s Coffee Alliance) marketing committee focusing in social marketing activities. In her spare time, she designs marketing materials and writes copy. Nichole has a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina-Aiken.


Michael Edwards
Senior Vice President, Hotspex

Michael Edwards is Senior Vice President at Hotspex. He works primarily with Consumer Packaged Goods companies, consulting on packaging, product innovation and brand strategy. Prior to Hotspex, Michael worked at Kraft, which gave him the opportunity to understand the business perspective on research. He strives to leverage this experience and frame research findings in a business context. Michael has been the research lead on the NCDT for seven years. He has also enjoyed brief periods living in two coffee producing countries – Guatemala and Nicaragua. He drinks his coffee with milk, no sugar.
 

Judith Ganes-Chase
Founder & President, J. Ganes-Chase Consulting, LLC

Judith Ganes-Chase is a world-renowned soft commodities and futures analyst with over 25 years experience in the food and agricultural industries and is well-known for her unique ability to not only gather, synthesize and interpret data in both an historical and present-day context, but also for the way she clearly and concisely articulates her findings and insightful opinions. Prior to starting J. Ganes Consulting in 2001, Ms. Ganes-Chase was Director of News and Research at InterCommerical Markets, but spent most of her career on Wall Street working for major brokerage houses Merrill Lynch (now part of Bank of America) and Shearson Lehman (now Smith Barney Morgan Stanley) as a Senior Softs Analyst for their many institutional and retail clients.  An author, speaker and educator, Ms. Ganes-Chase is a contributing member of several financial and research industry consulting associations including the Gerson Lehrman Groups Council, Elliott Associates and Coleman Research Group. She is an active member of many industry associations including the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA), National Coffee Association (NCA) and is on the SCAA statistical committee. Ms. Ganes-Chase is currently serving as Vice President on the Board of Directors of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance (IWCA) and will be its next President..


Michael Gaviña
Purchasing Manager, Gaviña Gourmet Coffee

Michael joined Gaviña in 2002 as a Buyer in the Purchasing Department and is currently the Purchasing Manager. He works alongside the Green Coffee Buyer and Quality Control Department to ensure the quality of the coffee and create new coffee blends. As a fourth generation Gaviña, Michael spent his summers learning about the family business by working alongside his father, Pedro Gaviña (President, Gaviña Gourmet Coffee). Michael is a board member of the PCCA where he is actively involved in promoting the coffee industry. He is a licensed Q Grader and in recognition of all of his efforts, the PCCA presented Michael the coveted “Supporter of the Year” award in 2009. He received his Bachelor and Master in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University – Los Angeles. 

 

Bruce Goldsmith
President, Baronet Coffee, Inc.
Chair, NCA Convention Planning Committee

Bruce Goldsmith is the third generation operating his family’s business, Baronet Coffee. Bruce graduated from Union College, Schenectady, NY in 1986 with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation, Bruce worked for Procter & Gamble in its Manufacturing Management Program. Bruce joined Baronet in 1988 and currently holds the position of President. During his tenure the company has entered into new geographical regions as well as new product channels. This year Baronet Coffee is proud to celebrate its 80th year in business. Bruce has been on the Board of Directors of the NCA since 2008 and has been Chairman of the annual convention for the past three years.

 

Dub Hay

Since 2002, Willard “Dub” Hay and his team have been responsible for ensuring that Starbucks serves only the best coffees the world has to offer, overseeing green coffee purchasing, roasting, blending, recipe development, coffee education of Starbucks' partners (employees) and the implementation of C.A.F.E Practices, Starbucks' socially responsible coffee buying guidelines. For more than 25 years, Hay has traveled to the far reaches of coffee growing regions, from Sulawesi to Rwanda, building deep relationships with generations of farmers. Throughout his career, Hay has experienced a rich cultural education and has a deep understanding of the diversity in coffee growing communities. Hay is globally recognized as an expert in the coffee industry and has lectured widely in the academic world and delivered industry keynote addresses in growing regions such as Brazil and Costa Rica. Most recently, Hay was honored to be designated as an Elder by the Kikuyu Tribe in Kenya. He has served on the NCA Board of Directors since 2004 and is also a member of the Earthwatch Institute's Board of Directors and a past member of the Pacific Coast Coffee Association. Hay received his bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Naval Academy and his Master of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business from Xavier University.
 

Chris Himmelberg

Chris Himmelberg is a wine business professional with over 10 years experience in the wine industry. He has managed markets across the Southwest United States including Southern California, Nevada and Arizona. Chris has in-depth knowledge of the wine industry and became a Certified Specialist of Wine through The Society of Wine Educators in 2005. He has traveled extensively through many of the world's major wine regions including Italy, France, New Zealand, Australia and California.
 

Sherri Johns

Sherri Johns is President and Founder of WholeCup Coffee Consulting, LLC and the Ultimate Barista Challenge.  Sherri is a Lead Trainer at BEST Coffee School, a Professional Cupper, Head Judge for Cup of Excellence, International Tasting judge in Coffee, Barista and Food Competitions. She is a featured author, writer and speaker throughout the globe. Sherri specializes in Coffee Education, Barista Training and International Development in retail, marketing, branding and expansion working seamlessly in a variety of cultures, between professionals, producers, associations and consumers.


Ellen Jordan Reidy
President & Founder, America's Food Technologies (AMFOTEK®)

Ms. Reidy began her career with Wechsler Coffee Corporation holding numerous positions including President of the firm's specialty coffee division, and later as Vice President of Operations overseeing the firm’s three roasting plants/quality assurance initiatives.  During her 28 year coffee career, Ms. Reidy has served on numerous coffee industry boards and committees. She is Chairperson of the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI), a not-for-profit foundation dedicated to improving the quality of coffee and the lives of the people who produce it.  Ms. Reidy is also a past-director of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) and past-chair the association’s Training Committee. Ms. Reidy received the SCAA’s Outstanding Contribution to the Industry Award (2000) for her work on the critical role of sensory evaluation in coffee’s quality assessment. She further serves the industry on the National Coffee Association’s Scientific Advisory Group.  Ms. Reidy holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Rocky Laverty
President & CEO, Farmer Brothers Coffee Co.


Rocky Laverty is President and Chief Executive Officer of Farmer Bros. Co. He joined Farmer Bros. in 2006 and is leading the efforts to position the 97-year old company for its second century of helping restaurants and other food-service providers to serve the perfect cup of coffee to their consumers. Laverty began his career as an attorney and has served as chief executive of retailer Smart & Final and of Diedrich Coffee Inc. He is the fifth chief executive and the second non-family member to lead Farmer Bros. since its founding in 1912.

Laverty received his undergraduate and law degrees from Stanford University.

 

Arnoldo Leiva
General Manager, The Coffee Source

As General Manager of The Coffee Source, Inc., in San José, Costa Rica, Arnoldo Leiva is not only responsible for all aspects of sourcing green coffees from Latin American countries and exporting them to Europe, the United States and Asia, he also manages the import and sales division for the U.S. market.  Mr. Leiva is also active with several coffee associations both in Costa Rica and the United States and is currently President of the Specialty Coffee Association of Costa Rica and Sintercafe and sits on the Specialty Coffee Association of America’s International Relations Council representing Costa Rica. Mr. Leiva received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from the Universidad Autónoma de C.A. in San José and an MBA from the National University of San Diego.

 

Ted Lingle
Executive Director, Specialty Coffee Association of America

Ted Lingle is the executive director of the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) and author of The Coffee Cupper's Handbook and The Coffee Brewing Handbook. He has served as an expert witness/consultant in hot beverage injury cases on the subjects of proper brewing, holding and serving temperatures.Mr. Lingle was a founding co-chairman of the SCAA and has also served on committees of the National Coffee Association and National Coffee Service Association. He was chairman and a member of the board of directors of the Coffee Development Group/Promotion Fund of the International Coffee Organization.In addition, Mr. Lingle served as vice president of marketing for Lingle Bros. Coffee, Inc. for 20 years. In 1998, he was awarded the National Medal of Merit by the Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia. In 2004, he was awarded the Order Flor de Café Medal of Merit by the Guatemalan National Coffee Association.

 

Karalyn McDermott
Vice President, Bunn-O-Matic


Since 1987, Karalynn has been in the coffee brewing equipment manufacturing aspect of the industry focusing on strategic marketing and sales. In 1997 , she was part of a grass roots effort to resurrect the Golden Cup Award after it had been dormant for 40 years. Karalynn served on the Specialty Coffee Association of America Board of Directors from 2000 - 2004, receiving the Special Recognition Award in 2004.
Karalynn is Vice President of Business Development with BUNN.

 

Craig K. Min
Chief Executive Officer, Lamill Coffee

Craig Min took the reigns to Lamill Coffee from his father in 1998 while still in his teens, and he immediately began to recast the company as an elite brand available only in the finest restaurants, hotels and resorts. Min credits the success of Lamill with a simple formula: hard work, great employees and an unswerving commitment to just doing things better. In 2008, Min and his wife Jean opened the Lamill Coffee Boutique in Los Angeles, pairing exceptional coffee with exquisite cuisine.  That attention to detail has netted Min a host of industry awards, including Best of Los Angeles Award for Best Coffee and the Food & Wine Tastemaker Award to Min himself as a top young talent changing the world of food and wine.  When it comes to coffee, beans are of course, paramount. But great beans, explains Min, “doesn’t necessarily equal great coffee. You need the right equipment, properly trained staff and constant monitoring to ensure consistently excellent coffee.” 

 

Bruce Mullins
VP of Coffee Culture, Coffee Bean International

Bruce Mullins has been passionate about specialty coffee since the late 70’s, since landing a prestigious warehouse job unloading sacks of green coffee from trucks after graduating from college. In 1982, Bruce joined Coffee Bean International, Inc. (CBI) of Portland, Oregon - one of America’s largest and most respected wholesale specialty coffee roasters - learning roasting, cupping, and all aspects of developing a successful specialty coffee business along the way. Bruce also serves on the Board of Trustees and chairs the Advisory Council of the Coffee Quality Institute (CQI), is a member of the Roaster Advisory Council of TransFair USA, works with the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) as an educator and trainer, and has served as vice president and board member of the American Premium Tea Institute. Bruce has also served as a Coffee Corps volunteer on assignments in Africa and South America, and has served as an international cupping judge for Cup of Excellence competitions in Central America, South America, and Africa.

Henry Ngabirano
Managing Director, Ugandan Coffee Development Authority

Henry Ngabirano has a 26-year history in coffee with a focus on quality control. For the past nine years he has served as Managing Director of the Uganda Coffee Development Authority and as a Government Representative to the International Coffee Organisation and the Inter African Coffee Organisation. He holds a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Food Science and Technology from Humberside University, UK.

 

Nestor Osorio
Executive Director, International Coffee Organization


Since 1978, Nestor Osorio has been active in the global coffee trade, holding posts such as Head of the Colombian Mission to the International Coffee Organization (ICO), Chairman of the Finance Committee of the ICO, Director of the European office of the Colombian Coffee Federation in Brussels, General Manager of “Cafémondial” and serving as the Colombian representative to both the International Cocoa and the International Sugar Organizations.  Dr. Osorio has also been a member of the Colombian delegation to the United Nations, UNCTAD and GATT-WTO and from 1994 to 1999 he was the first Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Colombia to the World Trade Organization where he served on various committees and review boards.  Subsequent to relinquishing his position as Ambassador, he assisted developing countries on the preparation of trade negotiations in agriculture in his capacity as international consultant of FAO and UNCTAD and from 2000 to 2002 served as Special Advisor of the Colombian Government on coffee and trade affairs. Dr. Osorio has been the Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization since 2002 and unanimously renewed to a second five-year term in 2007. Dr. Osorio holds a law degree from the University del Rosario in Bogotá, a doctorate in Administrative Law from the University of Paris and is a graduate of the International Institute of Public Administration.

 

Norm Ouellette
VP Research & Development, Starbucks Coffee Co./NCA Scientific Advisory Committee Member


Norm is a veteran of the Coffee Industry having spent over 25 years with Kraft Foods (Maxwell House).  During this period, he led Coffee Product & Process Development activities in the US as well as in Canada, the UK and Europe.  Norm served as Director of Quality Assurance for Oscar Mayer and Vice President Worldwide QA for the Campbell Soup Company.  Through his extensive experience in packaged foods, consumer focused product development, QA and Regulatory Affairs, Norm has formulated a broad perspective on coffee, product safety, consumers and regulations worldwide.  Norm holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of New Hampshire and Masters of Business Administration from Iona College (NY). 

 

Mike Perry
Roastmaster, Klatch Roasting

Since 1993, Coffee Klatch has been searching the world over for the finest coffee. Buying from only the top 1% of beans available, Coffee Klatch then roasts the beans fresh at their Upland Roastery to ensure optimum flavor and freshness. Mike Perry (Roastmaster) blends a background in chemical engineering with a love for great coffee to balance science and artistry in achieving the perfect cup of coffee. Klatch has won many awards including: Best Espresso in the World: World Barista Championships, Tokyo August 2007; ‘Micro Roaster of the Year’ (Roast Magazine; 2008-2009; Best of Brew Award: Ethiopian Sidamo, LA Food Show and Florida Food Show, 2006.

 

Diego Pizano
Board President, 4-C Association

A native of Bogotá, Colombia, Diego Pizano has long been involved in both economics and the coffee trade. An economic advisor to the President of Colombia from 1982 to 1986, he has also acted as economic advisor to the Colombian Board of Trade and as a consultant to the World Bank, the Interamerican Development Bank and the Andean Community. For many years he was in charge of economic research and international affairs at the National Federation of Coffee Growers of Colombia and from 1981-2007 was a member of the Colombian delegation to the International Coffee Organization. Mr. Pizano is also one of the founders of the Institute of Coffee Studies of Vanderbilt University in Nashville(USA). He is the author of several books and articles and is currently the President of the Common Code for the Coffee Community Association and the Chairman of the Board of the University of the Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. He holds degrees in economics from the University of the Andes and Cambridge University.

 

Stewart Richards
Technical Services Director, Innovia Films

Stewart Richards has worked in the flexible film/packaging industry for in
excess of 30 years having working with both cellulose and polypropylene films.
Stewart holds an honors degree in Chemistry, subsequent to achieving his
degree Stewart attained professional status and is a Chartered Chemist and
Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Since 1998 Stewart has been based
in the USA working on business development with responsibilities for North,
South, Central America and the Caribbean. Stewart is fully aware of the
growing trend and demand for sustainable and biodegradable solutions for
flexible packaging applications. Currently he works with converters, global
producers of products and retailers in this field. Stewart’s knowledge of the
properties of the available bio-based films allows him to look at the
functionality required for a flexible package and offer environmentally friendly
solutions. In addition Stewart also understands the requirements of ASTM D6400
and ASTM 6866.


Ken Roberts
Director, International Business Relations, Kraft Foods North America

Ken Roberts provides advice on international commercial issues to the company through its regional and global businesses. His present responsibility encompasses trade opportunities and impediments, as well as advocating Kraft interests in the area of U.S. farm and international trade policy. Previously, Mr. Roberts served as Associate Administrator of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) where he oversaw management of the agency and its network of 80 overseas offices covering some 100 countries. While serving as Career Minister in USDA’s Foreign Service and abroad for over a decade, he held responsibility for USDA’s international activities, including trade negotiations, disputes, development initiatives and the Department’s participation at WTO, OECD, FAO and CODEX. After receiving his degrees in Agriculture Economics from the University of Missouri, Mr. Roberts worked in Paraguay, South America as a Peace Corps volunteer. Throughout his career, he has remained active in production agriculture by managing the family row crop operation.

 

Alexis Rubinstein
Editor-in-Chief, Tea & Coffee Trade Journal

Alexis Rubinstein was born and raised in New York City. After graduating from the University of Arizona, she worked in the editorial field before finally settling in to her position as Editor in Chief at Tea & Coffee Trade Journal. She continues to write for her publication, reporting on industry trends, advances in equipment and, her personal favorite, stories at origin. Matthew C. Saurage
President & CEO, Community Coffee Company


Matthew has business experience in all of the Company's departments. As a fourth generation Saurage, he is presently the President and CEO having been elected in June 2005. Matthew joined the Company in 1995 and has had many areas of responsibilities, from work in the roasting facility to marketing, CC's Community Coffee House Operations, and development of new products. Earlier he lived in Brazil to better understand the nuances of growing, selecting and trading coffee. He and his father Norman Saurage III cup test coffee to assure the quality and flavor we expect in all of our products.  Matthew has a B.S. in Engineering, Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, LA, 1993; and a Masters in Business Administration, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN, 1998.  Matthew volunteers to serve on various boards of non-profit organizations benefiting the interests of education and the arts.

 

Stephen Schulman
Director of Business Development, S&D Coffee

Stephen Schulman has been active in the coffee industry for the past 25 years.  His first 15 years were spent in his family’s NYC metro area food service coffee roasting business. This experience allowed him to be involved in all aspects of running a multimillion pound a year roasterie. In 2000 Mr. Schulman joined renowned specialty roaster, Dallis Coffee in NYC.  While always involved in sales and marketing, Stephen held the title of Roast Master and was responsible for all green coffee purchasing and blend creation.  In September of 2008 Stephen joined the second largest food service roaster in the US, S&D Coffee of Concord, NC as Director of Business Development. With S&D’s reach and progressive culture, combined with Mr. Schulman's extensive knowledge of the specialty segment, contributions to our industry are sure to continue.

 

Susie Spindler
Executive Director, Cup of Excellence

Susie Spindler co-created the Cup of Excellence program and is now the Executive Director for the Alliance for Coffee Excellence, Inc. the non profit organization which owns the program. Her experience includes marketing and management for coffee, tourism and even a grizzly bear facility as well as being co-owner of a small advertising agency. She holds a graduate degree from Thunderbird in international management and marketing.

 

Chris Stevens
Vice President Corporate Relations and Customer Development, Keurig

Chris is responsible for building the Keurig brand through outreach efforts to the media, key customers, trade associations, and other influencer groups. He also heads up the Company's Corporate Social Responsibility efforts. Chris is one of the original members of the Keurig Senior Team, and started the Away From Home business for the company. Chris joined Keurig in 1996. He brought to Keurig more than 20 years of experience in consumer goods sales and marketing as well as general management. After beginning his sales career at Procter & Gamble, he became President of a subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch. After also serving as Divisional Manager with A-B, he was Executive VP and General Manager for United Liquors before becoming Executive Director of the Sports Museum of New England. Chris received his BS from Notre Dame and completed the Executive Education program at Columbia Business School.
 

Thiet Van Nguyen
Field Representative, Utz Certified


Thiet Van Nguyen has 28 years of experience in agriculture, 15 of which were spent working exclusively with coffee. At Utz, he is responsible for channeling technical assistance and certifications services to Vietnamese producers.

Ricardo Villanueva Carrera
Chairman, Anacafe

A coffee grower from the San Marcos region of Guatemala, Mr. Villanueva Carrera is an active member of various national agricultural associations and has been president of the Camara del Agro and the Federacion de Empresas Privadas (Fedepricap) and a member of the Comité Coordinador de Asociaciones Agrícolas, Comerciales, Industriales y Financieras (CACIF).  He held a position on the Board of Directors for Anacafé from 1994-1996, was reelected to the Board in 2004 and chosen as Board Chairman in November 2009. As Board Chair he is focused on the implementation of the Coffee Sector Competitiveness Plan, basing his priorities on productivity and coffee quality and aims to strengthen technical assistance for coffee growers and the administrative procedures of the Association.  Mr. Villanueva holds a law degree and an MBA.

 

Rolie Zagnoli
Managing Director, Zagnoli Trading Company

Rolie Zagnoli has spent 19 years in the foodservice and beverage industry working with a variety of established and emerging firms. Rolie’s highlighted past responsibilities include: The hot coffee platform and creation of iced coffee brewing for Dunkin Brands; the equipment execution and launch of premium coffee for McDonald’s; the alliance of Au Bon Pain and The Coffee Connection for a profitable urban chain destination; the co-branded Gourmet Bean platform for Marriott; and the equipment specification of North American coffee for Coca-Cola. Rolie’s additional team leadership roles resulted in successful coffee, iced tea, and creative beverage programs within the food distribution, convenience store, hospitality, and formulation market segments. Now Rolie lends his expertise to Zagnoli Trading Company, which prides itself on bringing supportive education to the most talented teams working with creative products and challenging ventures in the foodservice industry.
